Rousseau’s "The Social Contract" as it Applies to Slavery

Most remarkable in this projected republic was the provision to banish aliens to the state religion and to punish dissenters with death. The country had become a backward country with a miserable peasantry on the verge of starvation, a thin veneer of European civilization, and a seemingly unbridgeable gap between the privileged and the unprivileged. The Russian people turned to the Bolsheviks, almost by default, to implement the popular revolutionary program.
