Assessing Performance in International Business
[ send me this paper ]
A 7 page paper discussing performance assessment from a high tech perspective. Clear and honest performance assessment is critical for any business. Much domestic business can be evaluated solely on the merits of the bottom line of the balance sheet, but international business requires the addition of other factors as well. This paper uses Japan's awakening year of 1992 to illustrate the point that performance cannot only be assessed in terms of past profits but also must identify and prepare for industry trends on a global scale. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Assessing Product Life Cycle
[ send me this paper ]
A 10 page paper discussing how a software publisher can track qualities of product versions and ensure that it gives the proper attention to the right things in future releases. The product is a sound one, but no doubt there will be alterations to it in the future. The ultimate key to product success lies in providing competent and relevant service to those customers that already have purchased it. Word of mouth advertising, whether positive or negative, still is the most effective means of promoting any product’s reputation. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Assessing Research into Groupthink
[ send me this paper ]
A 16 page paper examining much of the research that has been done following Irving Janis' 1972 description of the groupthink phenomenon. The outcomes of some of these works appear to be as time-sensitive as the daily newspaper. While all the researchers discussed here have made further contribution to Janis' original work, it appears that none have taken into account the far different business climate that exists now. US business drastically changed between the 1970s and 2000. It appears that much of the difference that researchers have found has been related as much to changing business environment as to various methodologies used. Regardless of business views of the time or methodologies, however, the original concept of groupthink cannot be said to be generalizable to all situations. This observation is evident from the most superficial of examinations of the researchers' work. Bibliography lists 15 sources.

[ send me this paper ]

Te first an longest looks at the tolls that a company, or in this case a university, could use to assess risk, including HAZOP and HAZIM, Monte Carlo, cost benefit analysis and NPV. The second part of the paper looks at which models could be used by the university to determine the potential risks and rewards. The last part of the paper considers how the progress could be monitored. The bibliography cites 4 sources.

Assessing Risk at Tasty Foods
[ send me this paper ]
A 4 page paper discussing risk associated with a potential new product. Assessing the project risk is difficult in that we cannot know all conditions that will apply by the time the product reaches the market. It does appear that there is less risk than originally believed, however, based on the results of CAPM analysis. Monte Carlo simulation likely will confirm the findings of assessment using CAPM. Other approaches include altering variable values (salvage value, unit sales, revenues, sales price, variable costs) to find the level at which NPV remains positive. CAPM provides an acceptable overarching view. Bibliography lists 2 sources. Accompanying spreadsheet and PowerPoint presentation are available.
